Sarah Shad Johnson is a Charleston native who volunteers for her community as an educational advocate. She and her husband live in Mt. Pleasant with their two children who have attended Charleston County public schools.
Sarah currently serves in a publicly elected position as the Chair for the Moultrie Constituent District 2 School Board which represents Mt. Pleasant, Isle of Palms, Sullivan's Island, and the surrounding unincorporated areas. She has led the work on dozens of discipline cases, hundreds of student transfer requests, and the rezoning for Moultrie Middle School and Beckham High School.
Sarah is a co-founder of Charleston Area Community Voice for Education, a Parents Across America affiliate that raises awareness about local, state and national issues that affect local education. In the last two years, the group has grown from 350 members to over 3,700 members.
Sarah served as an appointed member of CCSD's BRIDGE steering committee and was an active participant in the BRIDGE teacher evaluation work groups. She also served as the Legislative Chair for the Charleston County District 9 PTA Board and was a member of the Cario Middle School Improvement Council.
Prior to becoming an educational advocate, Sarah worked as a Bankruptcy Paralegal for the US Department of Justice. She holds a paralegal certificate in addition to her Bachelor's Degree from the University of South Carolina, where she attended as an Honors College student.
Sarah decided to run for a seat on the Charleston County School Board so that the voice of parents and teachers could be heard for the benefit of all students.
